I've got the Viola Lee Blues |
Help Me, Help Me, Help Me! Give me your the nastiest, the gnarliest, the rockinest, the hands down over my head version of Viola that you can think of. I want to groove to the best versions I can sink my mind into, and I can't do it without some serious help!

Re: I've got the Viola Lee Blues |
This is the best version (in my opinion) but I would actually have to concede that it's probably not the "nastiest" - that would have to probably come from a '68 show.

That wild note at the intro of 3/20/70 is pretty nasty!
2/2/68 is nasty too, but many of the '68 Violas swing...

Re: I've got the Viola Lee Blues |
Ever since I heard 1/23/68 Viola for the first time it has been my favorite...Its a goddam freight train that is over 20 minutes. Classic performance. It is the bonus disc for Road Trips 2 v.2, the 2/14/68 release.

I agree. That is the best Viola Lee I have ever heard....and even though I am not a huge fan of 60's dead, I can listen to that 1/23/68 all day long.

Re: I've got the Viola Lee Blues |
Speaking of which, Arb, be sure to check out the link to the Newport footage from 68! We'd seen some of the stills before, BUT that's the DEAD we're always talking about--live action movement ALL over the stage, contorting themselves to produce feedback, interaction with one another in a variety of ways...cool stuff.
Now, we'd love to see the stage on 12 or 13 October 1968, eh?

Re: I've got the Viola Lee Blues |
thanks Tell, i did watch that last nite actually, and it was great to see ... altho the HISTORIC FILMS watermark right there in every frame was mildly annoying ... the entire thing should be released for purely historical purposes, there should be no 'rights' or 'ownership' when it comes to this sort of stuff
